“On The Floor” is a high-energy, hip-hop song that is destined to be an anthem for basketball teams around the world. It is featured in the independent film from R2 Productions called, “New Hope”, that releases February 2012. Here’s a brief description of the movie:

Michael is not thrilled about his family’s move to New Hope, a small, close-knit southern town. After all, it is his senior year. He is even less enthused about joining the town’s high school basketball team, especially when he begins to bump heads with the team’s star player, Lucas. Lucas is fiercely loyal to the memory of his brother Chase—the victim of a suicide that shook the entire town to its core. To Lucas, Michael is reaping everything Chase left behind—an insult he refuses to accept. Jasmine, Chase’s longtime girlfriend, still has not found peace a year after his tragic death—until a chance meeting with Michael. Michael’s faith is tested as he endures confrontations with Lucas on and off the basketball court and through his growing fascination with Jasmine. With topics including peer pressure, alcohol, sex, suicide, relationships, and acceptance, New Hope captures the life of the modern teenager.

As it has been for the last few years, the start of this new year has big AL on his way to Nashville, TN for the Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards Week! Due to the alarming statistics on suicide and depression in Ouachita Parish and the Ouachita Parish School System, Superintendent, Dr. Bob Webber, decided to organize a rally that would go to each middle and secondary school in his district to pump hope back into the students and faculty. In doing so, he enlisted the help of three accomplished individuals to take on the daunting task of taking a message of hope into his schools. They are: Flint Smith, Region VIII School Psychologist, Hollis Conway, two-time Olympian and Fellowship of Christian Athletes Area Representative, and our own, Al “big AL” Cherry, entertainer and educator in the system. NBC-Affiliate, KTVE (Monroe, LA), interviews big AL about his own personal battle with suicide. News anchor, Kayla Williams, put together a three-part series on “Depression”, due largely to the amount of suicides and attempted suicides in Ouachita Parish in the last 18 months. Being an public school educator and an entertainer, big AL speaks from a personal and passionate place to encourage viewers and let them know that they can truly defeat depression!  Here’s the link to the Story…or watch below.
