TBA (Behind the Music)
Pride vs. Humility. Arrogance vs. Confidence. Love vs. Hate. These are some of the battles that we face in the ministry and the industry. We’ve got to discover that delicate balance in life to make sure that we handle it carefully. Our choices and lifestyles can cause us to be off-kilter, so we’ve got do what it takes to achieve balance.
Balance is defined as an equal distribution of weight or amount; also the power or ability to decide an outcome by throwing one’s strength, influence, support, or the like, to one side or the other.
I have been given advice, over and over again about what I should do in my life. I have been told that I should rap and not sing or sing and not rap. I’ve been told that I should stop music and focus on preaching and vice versa. My methodology of teaching, in the classroom, is quite unorthodox, but its effect has people encouraging me to get a Master’s Degree to become a principal. I’ve been told that my focus should just be family, not industry and vice versa. Most don’t realize that when you go from being an educator to an emcee, in front of the same audience, it requires a “phone booth” change to win…*insert Clark Kent/Superman*. In Luke 12, there’s a verse that says “…to whom much is given, [of him] much is required”. We have to learn how to effectively manage all of our requirements, in order for GOD to be pleased and HIS people blessed! As a minister of the Gospel and an imperfect man, I realized that I needed balance to stand in this world and in these pulpits and on these stages; and I realized that my co-laborers needed it too. There’s an adage that says “true leaders lead by example”, so I choose to be an example to my family, my friends, my peers, and my supporters. I pray that you witness the transparency of this album, as you hear songs of love, joy, gratefulness, worship, and humility; but as you also hear songs that may seem of the contrary. It’s Alford Cherry, Jr….being honest, real, and transparent. So, ladies & gentlemen, boys & girls, I give you…
“The Balancing Act”.
